BitMart and Cipholio Ventures Help Incubate Innovation at the Harvard Hackathon
This past weekend at Harvard’s Innovation Lab, students from some of America’s leading universities converged for the Venture in Metaverse Hackathon focused on the emerging spaces of Web3, Metaverse, and AR/XR technologies.
Both BitMart and Cipholio Ventures helped sponsor the event and were on-hand as judges for the competition, which spanned from Friday’s opening ceremonies to Sunday’s crowning of a grand prize winner.
Leaders from all walks of the tech space also acted as mentors, critics and speakers. Able to showcase to an interested audience what their businesses are currently doing, they helped establish road maps for some of the nation’s brightest minds as they paired in groups to develop concepts around some of the leading growth sectors in tech such as health, education, and gaming.
This is not the first time that BitMart has ventured into higher education to help foster students along. Events at Columbia University, Stony Brook University, and George Mason University set the precedent long ago.
In his keynote address, Co-Founder and CEO of the Metaverse based Workplace, SoWork, Vishal Punwani, MD, told competitors inspiration could be found in sometimes unlikely places such as World Of Warcraft (WOW).
The iconic open-world game was the spark for Punwani’s innovative platform where, much like WOW, you can develop unique characters and create a sense of community. Or as Punwani put it, “build a world we can work together in” while relaxing in the comfort of your home and trying to bring more harmony to your personal life while still keeping a tight-knit professional team.
Communing over food, shared passions, and the lure of grand prize money, students from Harvard, MIT, Tufts, Columbia, NYU, and other prestigious universities brought their ideas, ingenuity, and passion to the Hackathon. Speakers such as Athena Demos, CEO of Big Rock Creative, advised competitors on the ten tenets of Burning Man, which Demos brought into the Metaverse as the annual festival has found a home there adjacent to the annual celebration of music and identity.
“We are excited to see what [the teams] build and what the future of technology is,” said BitMart and Cipholio Venture’s own Business Development Director Victoria Feng noted in her remarks during Friday’s opening session, as the ideas developed across those three days could be the flashpoint for the next state of Web3’s evolution.
Constantly curious about what’s in store for the future of technology, Feng enthusiastically cheered on those in the audience to build the future and inquire with her if they were interested in “the fun that goes into working at a crypto exchange,” especially BitMart.
